According to statistics from Community Literacy of Ontario, in 2005 the average number of volunteers in literacy agencies was 57.

By 2009 that number had dropped to 48. These numbers accurately mirror national trends among volunteers where fewer volunteers are contributing an increasing number of volunteer hours.

Effective recruitment is not simply about finding anyone willing to do the job; effective recruiting involves careful planning, creativity and appropriate screening to make sure that you find the right people for the volunteer positions at your literacy agency.
