Literacy Volunteers in Ontario

66, 517 hours per month…

                 nearly 800,000 hours per year…

This is the estimated number of hours contributed annually by the almost 6,000 volunteers working in community-based literacy agencies across the province of Ontario.

This strong volunteer commitment to helping others improve their lives is the foundation and strength of community literacy agencies.  Literacy volunteers are local people motivated by the belief that what they do will make a difference in another person’s life and in the communities where they live. Literacy volunteers bring a personal and deeply rooted connection to their local communities, a lifetime of experience, diverse skills and interests, and a genuine interest in making a difference in someone’s life.

Community Literacy of Ontario is delighted to present our “Literacy Volunteer – Value Added” website. This website is filled with information and resources designed to promote the importance of literacy volunteers and also help literacy agencies effectively manage the contributions offered by their volunteers.
